KICK-OFF IN 4 PARTS

Little Task – until 04.10.2021

As a kick-off for the upcoming project and to get into the semester theme there were little tasks to work on during the semester break.
The exciting results were presented at our first meeting in the beginning of the semester

#1_Entangled Life

Read the book “Entagled Life” by Merlin Sheldrake. Choose a passage that is particularly meaningful to you and develop from it a personal question related to mycelia and sybiosis.
Collect all aspects of this question in the whole book and give a short written presentation with this particular perspective on the content of the book.
Merlin Sheldrake shows us the world from a fungal point of view, providing an exhilarating change of perspective. Sheldrake’s vivid exploration takes us from yeast to psychedelics, to the fungi that range for miles underground and are the largest organisms on the planet, to those that link plants together in complex networks known as the “Wood Wide Web”.

#2_DIY Mushroom Cultivation

We grew our own mushroom in preparation. Gained first experience with this organism on our balcony, in the basement or kitchen. Mold or edible mushroom? The different species and growing conditions led to exciting observations.

#3_Pecha Kucha

Furthermore, we did research on the topic of symbiosis, both in general and specifically with fungi. Exciting research results and the experience of growing one’s own mushroom was a good insight into the world of mycelium and start into the coming semester.

#4_Youtube: Talk & Symposium

We watched these videos of a talk and a symposium as a small introduction:
1. TinyMonday: Mutations in Urban Development. Fungi as Societal Agents and Generators of Ideas
2. Agi Haines from 1:17:00 in Biologicla Machines at Material Futures Symposium
